For the fall race, known as the Charleston Cup and held in November, folks gather at the Plantation at Stono Ferry, a luxurious neighborhood, golf course and event venue located right in Hollywood. It’s the perfect spot to watch horses jump hurdles while enjoying cocktails and good company. Meanwhile, the Charleston Steeplechase, also held at Stono Ferry in April, is another chance to wear that spring dress or hat and watch some thoroughbreds run for more than $90,000 in prize money. Horse racing aside, Hollywood offers a great deal in the way of outdoor activities. The Links at Stono Ferry is a popular golf course, while the town’s location on the Stono and Edisto rivers makes for plenty of perfect days on the water. For beach bums who crave sand and salt, Edisto Beach is just 36 minutes away by car. Wide Awake Park, Manor Park and Pineland Park are three places to explore nature up close, open to the public from dawn until dusk.
